The slides are easy-to-follow and clear for students to have visuals. Each lesson follows the same, sequential steps and gradual release model where teachers will explicitly teach, model, practice together, then students will practice independently. Throughout each unit, students will get to publish their own piece and continue to review and practice first grade writing skills all year long.
There are currently 8 different units included (with more to come). The units included are below:
- Launching Your Writing Block:Â teach students what the writing block will look like and what procedures they will follow
- Beginning of the Year Writing: teach students the foundations of writing, how to identify and write sentences, and more
- Personal Narratives:Â students will walk through the writing process to learn what a personal narrative is and how to craft their own
- Opinion Writing: students will use mentor texts and practice sharing their opinions with sound reasoning to support their opinions
- Informative Writing: students will write their own informative booklets where they share facts about a topic
- Research Writing: students will walk through a full research project where they will learn about an animal of their choice and create their own factfolio and diorama (optional).
- Poetry: students will learn to write both free verse and form poetry and create their own poetry book to share
- How To Writing: students will choose something they know how to do and teach others how to do it using transition words and labels
These writing lessons are tried-and-true in first grade classrooms and provide daily, scaffolded lessons so teachers can save tons of time! All anchor charts, printables, writing pages, and more are included in the lessons!
Please note: all these writing units are already included in the SJT Writing Club
