These successive blending slides for vowel teams are a great phonics activity for Kindergarten, First, and Second Grade students!

In this unit, there are 80 words (320 slides) to work through with your students to practice blending both real and nonsense words with varying vowel teams. You can choose which set to use with your students (I usually start with successive blending as a scaffold).

Vowel teams included so far include:

• Successive blending slides: This set of words shows each sound, one at a time so students can blend together each sound without being distracted from the other letters.
• Regular blending slides: This set of words shows all the letters at one time, but the shark moves from one box to the next as we blend the sounds together.

All the slides in this pack have an underwater theme and a shark to “slide” through each sound and blend together.

These slides are available in Google Slides and are perfect for a phonics warm-up in a whole group or small group setting. Simply press “present” and students will say the sound the image is under, then blend the word at the end.
