In unit 10, you will find over 130 slides designed to do the following:
- explicitly review all previously taught skills (letter sounds, digraphs, bonus letters, glued sounds, suffix -s, consonant blends, closed syllables)
- explicitly teach consonant blends (beginning, end, and 3 letter blends)
- explicitly teach suffixes -ed and -ing
- explicitly teach vowel teams (oa, oe, ow, ou, oo, ue, ew) and diphthongs (ow/ou, aw/au)
- explicitly teach students how to blend sounds together to read words with 5 sounds
- explicitly teach students to segment sounds to write words with 5 sounds
- explicitly teach “trick” words using the heart word method for reading and writing
- explicitly teach sentence writing and fluent sentence reading
- prepare students for reading and writing words with silent e (which comes in Unit 11).
