In unit 7, you will find over 140 slides designed to do the following:
- explicitly review all previously taught skills (letter sounds, digraphs, bonus letters, glued sounds, suffix -s)
- explicitly teach the glued sound -ng (ang, ing, ong, ung)
- explicitly teach the glued sound -nk (ank, ink, onk, unk)
- explicitly teach students how to blend sounds together to read words with glued sounds ng/nk
- explicitly teach students to segment sounds to write words with glued sounds ng/nk
- explicitly teach “trick” words using the heart word method for reading and writing
- explicitly teach sentence writing and fluent sentence reading
- prepare students for reading and writing words with consonant blends (which comes in Unit 8).
