In unit 8, you will find over 90 slides designed to do the following:
- explicitly review all previously taught skills (letter sounds, digraphs, bonus letters, glued sounds, suffix -s)
- explicitly teach the difference between digraphs and consonant blends
- explicitly teach r-controlled vowel sounds
- explicitly teach students how to blend sounds together to read words with consonant blends
- explicitly teach students to segment sounds to write words with consonant blends
- explicitly teach “trick” words using the heart word method for reading and writing
- explicitly teach sentence writing and fluent sentence reading
- prepare students for reading and writing words that are closed syllables (which comes in Unit 9).
