In unit 9, you will find over 100 slides designed to do the following:
- explicitly review all previously taught skills (letter sounds, digraphs, bonus letters, glued sounds, suffix -s, consonant blends)
- explicitly teach what closed syllables are and how to mark them
- explicitly teach vowel teams (ai, ay, ee, ea, ey) and diphthongs (oi, oy)
- explicitly teach students how to blend sounds together to read words with closed syllables
- explicitly teach students to segment sounds to write words with closed syllables
- explicitly teach “trick” words using the heart word method for reading and writing
- explicitly teach sentence writing and fluent sentence reading
- prepare students for reading and writing words with 5 sounds (which comes in Unit 10).
