Number Talks: What’s the Rule? Concept Attainment Slides
$2.00
Number talks in kindergarten, first, and second grade classrooms are so important to helping students think flexibly about numbers and gain conceptual understandings of all skills!
These concept attainment math talks are a fun way to introduce new math topics to your students. To do this, students will look at the thumbs-up side and determine what makes them all the same and how they are different from the thumbs-down side. Since this is often used as an introductory lesson, I like to let students really just make observations and try to guess and check what the rule may be.
This set includes 20 slides to help students with the following skills:
- Numbers vs. Letters
- Even and odd numbers
- Patterns
- Doubles facts
- Teen Numbers
- Addition with 3 addends
- Friends of 10
- Subtraction symbols
- Time to the hour and 1/2 hour
- Fractions (1/2)
- Multiples of 5 and 10
- 2D vs. 3D shapes
- Defining properties of shapes
- Meaning of the = sign
- 3 digit numbers
- Ways to make 10cents
- Subtraction and Addition with regrouping
Within each skill, there are 20 different slides and they include an editable slide so you can add your own problems.
How do you use these?
Math talks should be implemented in your K-2 classroom every single day for about 5 minutes per day! You can simply display a few of the number talks and use the guided questions I provide to talk about math in a meaningful way with your students. These are also great to use in small groups on a particular skill that needs review!
Please download the preview to see examples of the different math talks included.
Enjoy!
