Some things to note:
There is no one, “correct” phonics scope and sequence to follow when teaching your students different skills. You just want to make sure of two things:
- The skills you teach to your students get progressively more difficult and build off one another.
- No matter which scope and sequence you choose to follow, you want to make sure you meet your students where they are each year. You may need to back up, move forward, or spend a longer time on a skill than your scope and sequence says to. This is where your knowledge and practice come into play to best meet the needs of your students!
The following scope and sequence is the one I follow when creating my phonics resources so you can use it as a guide if you’re in need of your own scope and sequence!
