How do you use these in your classroom?
These task cards are a great hands on center for your students to complete either independently or with a partner. When students are moving through math centers, I like to assign these task cards for students to complete. You can also use these in small groups as you guide them through the activity and re-teach as needed.
What is included in this unit?
There are six different task card centers included in this unit (with 20+ cards each):
These subtraction cards are a great way for students to practice subtracting within 10:
- Sprinkle and Take: here students will read the equation and add “sprinkles” to the donut (cut paper, pom poms, beads) for the larger number. They will then take away (subtract) the second numbers and write the difference with an expo marker.
- Jump and Solve: here students will solve subtraction equations using a number line. You may want to give them a manipulative or expo marker to “hop” backwards to lily pad. When they find the answer they may write it in the box.
- Fill and Take: here students will fill the 10 frame with the larger number of cubes. Then they will subtract the second number and write their answer in the box with an expo marker.
- Subtract and Clip: here students will look at the number in the middle of the grid. Next, they will go around the grid and read and solve the equations. Students will then clip all of the equations with the target difference.
- Bonus numbers 11 & 12
- Decode and Solve: here students will use “number code card” to decode problem. They will then fill in equation with an expo marker. They can use blank space at the bottom for a work space.
- Count and Cross Out: Here students will use an expo marker to X out the correct amount of bears and solve the equation.
Please note: these cards should be laminated so they can be used with dry-erase markers over and over again.
Enjoy!
