How do you use these in your classroom?

These task cards are a great hands on center for your students to complete either independently or with a partner. When students are moving through math centers, I like to assign these task cards for students to complete. You can also use these in small groups as you guide them through the activity and re-teach as needed.

What is included in this unit?

There are six different task card centers included in this unit (with 20+ cards each):

  • True or False: Here students will use the 10 frames to subtract the subtraction equations and see if the difference given is true or false. They will circle the thumbs up for true or the thumbs down for false after subtracting. Students can use an expo marker to fill in the ten frames and then erase what needs to be subtracted.
  • Add and Clip: Here students will look at the number in the middle of the grid. Next, they will go around the grid and read and solve the equations. Students will then clip all of the equations with the target difference.
  • Count and Cross Out: Here students will use an expo marker to X out the correct amount of buttons and solve the equation.
  • Eating Cookies: Here students will use an expo marker or small pom poms to represent cookies on the baking sheet. They will cross out, erase or take away that number of “cookies” being eaten and write the difference in the box.
  • Fill the number bond: Students will solve for the missing part of the number bond. They will write the equation as both a subtraction problem (the whole minus a part) and as a missing addend addition problem.
  • Bunny Hops: students will use a number line to solve problems and write the difference in the box.

Please note: these cards should be laminated so they can be used with dry-erase markers over and over again.

Enjoy!
